Vice President Kamala Harris has canceled her Friday rally with California Gov. Gavin Newsom after at least twelve Americans died during several terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.
Harris had initiallyplannedto hold a “car rally” with the California governor Friday in the San Francisco Bay Area. Therallywas intended to whip up support for Newsom before the governor faces a recall election on Sept. 14.
Harris and Newsomcanceledthe rally Thursday following several terroristattacksoutside of the Kabul airport that left at least twelve Americans dead, Politico first reported. Newsom’s campaign spokesman Nathan Clickconfirmedthe reports to several otheroutletsThursday.
Newsom seeks to fend off a recall vote, and called on the vice president to offer support.
“I am excited to join my friend and our Vice President next week,” Newsom said in a statement, according toPolitico. “The stakes of this election couldn’t be higher.”
Harris and Newsom both drew criticism for planning to continue with the campaign rally following the terrorist attacks in Kabul.
“This is an obscene display of politicking … the most obscene we’ve seen in a very long time,” Fox News contributor Tammy BrucesaidThursday.
