The Paramus Police Department announces the arrest of Curtis L Brinson, 44-year-old, of Newark NJ for his participation in an armed carjacking that occurred at the GS Plaza Shopping Center on September 14, 2021. He was charged with conspiracy to commit armed carjacking and with being an accomplice to the crime.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at approximately 9:22 pm the Paramus Police Department responded to the Garden State Plaza Shopping Mall, in the area of Door #10, which is located on the west side of the mall, for a carjacking.

Since the date of the incident, detectives of the Paramus Police Department assisted by the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force ( to which the Paramus PD is a member) have worked tirelessly on this investigation.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victims, both 30 year old males, males from Jersey City. They reported that when they exited the mall they observed a male sitting on a light post stanchion near their vehicle. When they got to their 2020 Mercedes 4 door G-Wagon, the male ran over to them and produced a black handgun. The suspect demanded the keys to the car which the victims complied with. The suspect then fled with the Mercedes. The suspect is described as a male black, thin build, approximately 6-3 in height, wearing a black sweatshirt and grey sweat pants. The suspect also had a black color face mask.

On September 24, 2021, Paramus Police Detective Dan Cullen, Detective Sgt. Keith Dimascio and Paramus Officer Anthony Mordaga were able to develop information and evidence that allowed them to charge Brinson in the carjacking case. Brinson was arrested in Newark, NJ, and transported to Paramus Police Headquarters where he was booked and processed. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
