HAWTHORNE, FL – Oct. 5, 2021 – Cody McClure, 19, of Hawthorne was arrested Sunday afternoon after pointing a gun at residents during a dispute over garbage.

Deputies made contact with the victims and witnesses who said McClure showed up outside their residence visibly upset over garbage left in his yard on 119 Twin Lakes Road. McClure was agitated and called one of the victims, who is Asian, racial slurs. The victims said McClure pointed a revolver at them and said he would “kill” the victims. The victims and witnesses said McClure then drove back toward his residence and a short time later they heard gunshots coming from the area of McClure’s home.

Deputies responded to McClure’s residence and found ammunition, but were unable to locate the firearm.

McClure was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He was taken to the Putnam County Jail.

According to state statutes, due to the racial slurs used by McClure toward one of the victims, there could be enhancements added to the two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon during sentencing if found guilty.
