Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t do it alone as Yankees drop Wild Card to Red Sox

by Phil Stilton

BOSTON, MA – New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton had a message for the Boston Red Sox ahead of Tuesday night’s Wild Card game, “We’re coming for you!” If only the rest of the Yankees had heard that message and showed up to play the Red Sox, the outcome might have been different.

The Yankees lost the game 6-2 and ended their season on a low note, but Stanton came through on his promise. He came for Boston. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and two shots off the Green Monster.

On his first hit, Stanton blasted one to deep left, stared at it and watched it hit the unforgiving Green Monster. He should have been on second, instead delivered a monster single off the wall. He can be forgiven because John Sterling and the national broadcast crew all called it a home run too.

Other than Stanton, the Yankees were 3 for 27 with just 1 run, a solo shot by Anthony Rizzo. 7 of the Yankees 11 batters in the lineup went hitless.

Pitching was no better as Boston manhandled Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino and Jonathan Loaisiga.
