BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – A group of employees at a manufacturing plant in Anne Arundel County is celebrating after winning a $50,000 third-tier Powerball prize in the Oct. 2 drawing. The lucky players, hailing from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City, matched four of the white balls and the red Powerball to win the prize.

The winning “Super 7,” which is the nickname a representative of the group chose for Lottery publicity, won $104 in the Sept. 29 drawing. The Powerball pool participants decided to reinvest that prize in the Oct. 2 drawing. They purchased 34 quick-pick tickets.

“Another co-worker collects all the money and purchases the tickets for us,” said the “Super 7” representative. “Then, he gives me the tickets to hold and I check the numbers.”

Last Sunday, while watching football with his son, the “Super 7” ticket checker did just that. He was scanning the tickets one by one, using the Lottery appwhen a message froze him in his tracks.

“The message said the ticket was a winner,” said the Pasadena player. “I had to scan it twice to believe what I was seeing.” He also showed the ticket to his son so he could verify the win, too. Next, he called and shared the news with his wife, who was not at home.

The winner calmed down a bit and began to call and text a screen shot of the winning message to each of his “Super 7” crew members. “Everyone was so in shock, asking was I kidding,” he said. “I told them ‘No, it’s not a joke, it’s for real.’ ”

The “Super 7” split the $50,000 prize and received nearly $7,000 each before taxes. The group’s representative said he plans to put his winnings in the bank. He added that one other team member told him he will save his winnings for the holidays.

The “Super 7” bought the lucky ticket at Maiden Choice Liquors located at 1064 Maiden Choice Lane in Baltimore City. The “Super 7” may return; they plan to keep pooling their money and playing Powerball each week in hopes of hitting the jackpot one day.Categories:PowerballWinners Tags: Powerballbaltimore
