Trump drops bizarre rant against Colin Powell after his death, Phil Murphy responds

Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump raised quite a few eyebrows after the death of former U.S. Army General Colin Powell, who also served as a military advisor to presidents, Democrats and Republicans after his military career.

Powell served as a National Security Advisor for Ronald Reagan before becoming the 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. In 2001, he became Secretary of State under George W. Bush.

This week, Powell died of complications due to COVID-19, despite being fully vaccinated.

Trump, who has become a blogger since being banned from Twitter, Facebook, and other social media apps delivered a rather bizarre eulogy to the elder statesman that pretty much left few surprised. In the past few weeks, Trump has essentially become a full-time bulk email spammer, sending sometimes dozens of emails out to his mailing list each day, sometimes with very odd requests, comments, and declarations.

His latest about Powell was no different.

“Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media. Hope that happens to me someday. He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace,” Trump blogged today.

In New Jersey, Democrat Governor Phil Murphy who is fighting an election campaign against one of Trump’s biggest frenemies, Jack Ciattarelli slammed the former President.

“Former President Trump’s comments on the late General Colin Powell are among the worst and most despicable things he’s ever said, which is saying something. May his comments serve as a reminder of what our country sharply rejected last fall,” Murphy said.

His opponent Jack Ciattarelli dodged the Trump drama completely, saying, “Melinda and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of General Colin Powell, and we send our most sincere condolences to his family. We join the people of New Jersey in reflecting on Gen. Powell’s storied military and diplomatic career. His legacy of service should serve as an inspiration to us all.”

“Of course Trump had shitty things to say about Colin Powell. All tiny, untalented men abhor greatness in other men. It reminds them of their own self-loathing and it makes them scream at the top of their lungs so that only dogs can hear them,” said actor Ron Perlman of Sons of Anarchy fame.

After the January 6th breach of the U.S. Capitol, Powell declared that he was no longer a Republican and demanded Trump’s resignation.

Editor’s note: Murphy’s opponent, Jack Ciattarelli published a comment regarding Trump’s statement twelve hours after this story was published, “Secretary Colin Powell was a Vietnam veteran and a trailblazing statesman. He deserves better than President Trump’s petty insults upon his passing.”
