BREVARD COUNTY, FL – A criminal fugitive out of New York was arrested in Florida after breaking into vehicles owned by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies, inside the department’s parking lot.
According to the BCSO, Kim Jung Su of Flushing, New York was seen burglarizing one of the department’s correctional officer’s vehicles in the parking lot of the Brevard County Jail Complex.
It’s not the New Yorker’s first run-in with the law in Florida.
Su had just hours earlier been released from the Brevard County Jail following an arrest that originally took place on October 9, 2021.
Su was first arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol after he was involved in a vehicle crash on I-95. At that time, Troopers made contact with Su and determined he was the driver of the vehicle which was reported stolen out of Hollywood, Florida. In addition to driving the stolen vehicle, Su was also found to be a wanted fugitive from New York with an active warrant for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Trespass.
When agents reached out to Queens District Attorney Michelle Katz, her office said, no thank you, you guys keep him.
“Not that I am surprised, or even shocked for that matter, but yesterday our agency received notification from the Queens County District Attorney’s Office that they were no longer going to extradite Su and requested that the warrant hold they had previously placed on him be removed,” the agency said.
With no pending local charges, Su was released from the Jail Complex last night around 10:00 P.M. Over the course of the next 4 hours, Su waited in our Jail lobby and public parking area and then at approximately 2:40 A.M. decided it was a good idea to break into one of our Corrections Deputies personal vehicle in the parking lot of the Jail Complex.
Su was observed by Corrections Deputies entering into the employee’s personal vehicle and Deputies from our North Precinct Patrol Services responded to conduct the investigation. The subsequent investigation by responding Patrol Deputies confirmed that Su had unlawfully entered the employee’s vehicle and removed approximately $4.00 in cash and change.
Su was taken into custody by our Deputies and once again booked into the Brevard County Jail for Burglary, Petit Theft, and Resisting Arrest Without Violence. Su was held on an $11,000.00 Bond.
“I can assure you that unlike the State of New York we won’t be dropping the charges,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.
