NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced today that two men have been charged in connection with the murder of Lorenzo Hill Staten, 32, of Franklin.

On November 2, 2021 at approximately 8:12 P.M., authorities responded to the area of Seamen Street and Remsen Avenue following the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located Hill Staten who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation conducted by Detective Keith Walcott of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined Jhon German-Suarez, 24, and Wendis Rodriguez-Quiles, 31, both of New Brunswick conspired to shoot and kill Hill Staten.

The New Brunswick Police Department, the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, the New Jersey-New York United States Marshal’s Fugitive Regional Task Force, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office all assisted with the arrests of German-Suarez and Rodriguez-Quiles who were apprehended earlier today in the Bronx.

German-Suarez was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

Rodriguez-Quiles was charged with one count of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, one count of first-degree murder, and one count of second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

German-Suarez and Rodriguez-Quiles remain in custody in New York pending extradition hearings. Upon their return to New Jersey, they will be lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.

At present, the murder does not appear to be a random act and the defendants and victim were known to one another. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Keith Walcott at (732) 745-5200 or Detective Mark Morris at (732) 745- 3927.
