SILVER SPRINGS, MARYLAND – A $4 quick-pick Powerball ticket that delivered a $100,000 prize has a Silver Spring resident celebrating her Lottery luck.
The 70-year-old retiree discovered her ticket won just a few days after the Dec. 4 drawing. The former healthcare professional had bought the ticket on Dec. 3 while visiting 7-Eleven #28808 at 1301 University Boulevard in Takoma Park.
Her ticket’s numbers, randomly selected using the Lottery’s quick-pick feature, matched four of the winning numbers in the drawing and the Powerball for a $50,000 prize. Because she added the Power Play option, the X2 Power Play multiplier doubled her payout to $100,000.
She discovered her lucky win several days after the drawing while she was out and about.
“I scanned the ticket at a store and, when I saw the amount, I was in disbelief,” said the Montgomery County resident. When she handed the ticket to the store clerk to verify that it was truly a third-tier winner, she attempted to keep her composure.
“I wanted to scream, but I just kept it inside,” she said.
The clerk handed the ticket back with a big smile! With that confirmation, the winner quickly stowed the $100,000-winning ticket in her jacket and hurried home to share the great news with her family.
The lucky player told Lottery officials she has many plans for her winnings, beginning with purchasing a car.
The Powerball jackpot is still rolling with an estimated $320 million jackpot up for grabs with tonight’s drawing. The cash option is $232.1 million.
