Plain township man charged for discharging assault rifle while intoxicated

Plain Township, Ohio – On Tuesday, December 21st, 2021 at approximately 12:08 p.m. Stark County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in the 7900 block of Woodrush Drive in Plain Township in reference to shots fired.

Upon arrival deputies determined 44-year-old Matthew Lucas had discharged an assault rifle on the property. It is believed that Lucas discharged approximately 20-30 rounds into the ground. One individual was inside the home at the time. No injuries were reported.

“Deputies responded effectively and efficiently and were able to take the suspect into custody without incident,” explained Sheriff George T. Maier.


Lucas was arrested on one count of having weapons under disability (F3), one count of using weapons while intoxicated (M1), one count of inducing panic (M1), and one count of discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited area (M4).
