Suspect in custody after shooting death Wednesday morning in Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, OH – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in Bethlehem Township on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021.

At approximately 6:37 a.m. Stark County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 9500 block of Sherman Church Avenue SW in Bethlehem Township in response to an individual who had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies located a 47-year-old Navarre man with two gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Aultman Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that the shooting took place at a home in the 4300 block of Hudson Drive SW in Bethlehem Township and that the suspect and victim knew each other. 56-year-old Danny McConnell of Canton was arrested a short time later without incident. McConnell has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary (F1), one count of attempt to commit aggravated murder (F1), and one count of felonious assault (F2). He has been booked into the Stark County Jail.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Erie Valley Fire & Rescue. The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Stark County Sheriff’s Office at 330-430-3800 or the Anonymous Crime Tip Line at 330-451-3937.
