TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill took a sharp turn on Monday and announced the township is now seeking to purchase property in the township’s northern section along the Lakewood border. The area has been a source of contention for residents and members of the Orthodox Jewish community seeking to build homes and apartments adjacent to Lakewood. Hill said he will begin reaching out to property owners in North Dover to see if they would be interested in selling their overdeveloped land to the township to keep it from being built into housing developments for the growing Orthodox Jewish community. Hill said the offer was available to property owners in the northern section of town, but did not offer that program to other sections of the township.
