Newark police seeking your help to identify pair of purse snatchers

NEWARK, NJ – Newark police are searching for a pair of purse snatchers and are asking the public to help identify them.

Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara requests the public’s help with identifying the pictured suspects, who robbed a woman of her purse on January 18, 2022.

Police responded to a call about a theft around 8:40 p.m. in the 100 block of McWhorter Street. The suspects, captured on surveillance video, approached the victim after exiting a white Honda Accord. They snatched her purse and that caused her to fall into a post. The suspects fled in the Honda Accord, which was recovered in the 100 block of South Munn Avenue.


Suspect #1 is described as a thin Black male, who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants with a white stripe, a grey mask, and black and grey sneakers. Suspect #2 is described as a thin Black male, who was wearing a black jacket with white markings on both sleeves, a Nike face mask, and black sneakers with white soles.

Director O’Hara urges anyone with information about the suspects to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
