Wilkes-Barre bowling alley brawl ends with one person shot

WILKES-BARRE, PA – A fight that started at the Chakos Family Bowling Center in Wilkes-Barre ended with gunshots, police here say.

On Wednesday, the Wilkes-Barre Police responded to the area of Chakos Bowling Lane 195 Wilkes-Barre Blvd in reference to a fight with reported shots fired. Upon arrival, the scene was secured by patrol officers. The initial officers indicated that there was evidence of shots fired and several vehicles being damaged.

Patrol officers attempted to locate a car that fled the area just after the fight between the two groups of subjects. A short time later responding officers observed the fleeing vehicle and a traffic stop was attempted.


The vehicle fled from police until a felony car stop was initiated. Upon stopping the vehicle it was determined that it was in fact the vehicle containing several of the subjects involved in the fight at Chakos. All were detained and the vehicle seized for further investigation. The driver was arrested and charged with Fleeing and Eluding Police and related charges.

He was identified as Armand Hobson of Kingston, PA. A passenger was found to be wanted and was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was identified as Dennis Rowell from Brooklyn New York. but currently from Edwardsville PA. The initial investigation revealed that a male subject, identified as Shalik Aiken, and several subjects were bowling at Chakos Lanes.

A group of males, including Hobson and Rowell, came into the bowling alley and met with Aikens. A fight broke out between the two groups, who are known to each other inside the bowling alley.

Aiklens went outside to the parking lot along with the second group and the fight continued outside in the parking lot. During the fight in the lot, one or more of the involved parties produced a firearm and shots were fired. Aiken fled from the scene and was later located near his residence on Hill St. He was found to be suffering from a non-life-threatening wound to his leg and arm. All other suspects then fled the area in the stopped vehicle or on foot.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained. The scene was secured and processed. The initial investigation revealed that the incident was isolated between parties that were known to each other and involved in a physical fight which resulted in the assaults. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending further lab analysis of evidence and corroboration of information received.
