DUI driver from Teaneck stopped by police had illegally owned gun in vehicle

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP – The New Jersey State Police have arrested Kevin A. Simmons, 49, of Teaneck N.J. after a traffic stop led to a DWI arrest and the recovery of weapons and drugs.

On February 5, 2022, at 5:00 a.m., Trooper Cory Jett stopped Simmons for a traffic violation southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike at milepost 52.4 in Mansfield Township, Burlington County. During the stop, Trooper Jett determined that Simmons was under the influence and arrested him for DWI. After further investigation, Trooper Jett discovered that Simmons was also in possession of a .380 caliber handgun, a machete, and marijuana.

Kevin Simmons was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and DWI. Simmons was lodged in Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing.
