Ocean County Sheriff’s Officer killed in Brick Township crash

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – At about 3:45 am Monday morning, police responded to a crash near the intersection of Shorrock Street and Dumbarton Drive. Lakewood and Brick Township Police responded to find 41-year-old Brian Stockhoff, of Jackson deceased. Stockhoff worked as deputy at the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

Police reported Stackhoff’s car hit a brick retaining wall.

“We are saddened to hear of our brother’s, Officer Stockhoff, untimely passing,” Ocean County Sheriff’s PBA Local #379 said in a statement. “Brian started our Mounted Unit and his smile was infectious, genuine and brought light into any room he entered. We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts as we all take time to grieve this heavy loss.”


Nearby Lake Riviera Middle School was placed on a two-hour delayed opening as the investigation continued into the morning.

The Ocean County Sherrif’s Office issued the following statement:

On behalf of Sheriff Michael Mastronardy and the entire staff at the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office we mourn the loss of Ocean County Sheriff’s Officer Brian Stockhoff. Officer Stockhoff, hired in 2007, was our class leader in the Ocean County Police Academy Class #89. Officer Stockhoff also was instrumental in the creation of our Mounted Unit. At many events, Officer Stockhoff would lead a parade or bring Sambuca and later Cianti to a summer event. We will miss his smile and his compassion for others. Please keep Officer Stockhoff and his family in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead. We will miss our brother Brian!
