TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill has announced the Hugh Clayton Jersey Shore Boy Scouts Council Center will be rented out for religious services going forward. The property, now owned by the township after it was purchased for $1.1 million 2021 is still being used by the Boy Scouts of America, but under township control, Hill said the town is seeking new uses for their new acquisition.

One of those uses will be to allow a religious group to continue to use the building. In a report by Shorebeat, Hill said, “Now that we own the property, we’re going to continue letting them use it on Sundays, so it’s just a simple lease agreement.”

The township now owns the building and the adjacent former Camp Albocando Campground which hill, according to the article wants to convert into public recreational space.

The township’s religious tenants at the center will be a Pentecostal Church that will continue to use the facility on Sundays.
