North Jersey man charged for Phillipsburg murder

ORANGE, NJ – The New Jersey State Police have arrested Larry Roberts, 19 of Orange, N.J. who was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred in Phillipsburg, N.J. on February 8.

During the investigation, investigators from the Phillipsburg Police Department identified a Chevrolet Impala as the suspect vehicle and linked it to Roberts. As a result, detectives charged Roberts with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being in violation of a restraining order. He was also wanted by the Newark Police Department and Greenwich Police Department for robbery and by the Easton Police Department for terroristic threats.

On February 14, the Phillipsburg Police Department contacted detectives from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit to assist with locating Roberts. Through various investigative means, detectives determined that Roberts was staying at a residence in Orange, N.J.


On February 17, detectives from the Fugitive Unit along with members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Task Force-Newark Division located Roberts at the residence and arrested him without incident. He was lodged at the Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Larry Roberts was known to travel between Easton, P.A. and Newark, N.J. on Interstate 80 and Interstate 78.
