Memphis, TN – U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller announces that Justin
Johnson made his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in
the Western District of Tennessee on a federal charge.
A fugitive
wanted by the Memphis Police Department for the Nov. 17, 2021, homicide
of Adolph Thornton, a.k.a. “Young Dolph”, Justin Johnson was arrested by
U.S. Marshals on January 11 in Brazil, Indiana. In addition to the state
charges of First Degree Murder, Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder,
Theft of Property $10,000 – $60,000, Employing a Firearm with the Intent
to Commit a Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Johnson was
also wanted for Violation of Federal Supervised Release on a weapon
charge.
When a subject is sentenced for a federal crime, they
often are required to serve a period of supervised release at the end of
their sentence. When they are released from the Bureau of Prisons, they
are monitored and assisted by the U.S. Probation Office. If they violate
the terms of their supervised release, an arrest warrant is issued. It
is the responsibility of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve these arrest
warrants.
On January 20, Johnson appeared before a U.S.
Magistrate Judge in Memphis and was remanded to the custody of the U.S.
Marshals for the duration of his federal legal proceedings. He also
faces legal action in Shelby County for his state charges.
