U.S. Marshals Up Reward for Major Case Fugitive

DOJ Press

Abingdon, VA

Eric Monroe Jones
The
U.S. Marshals are now offering up to $15,000
for information leading to the arrest of a major fugitive charged with
killing his ex-wife five years ago.

Eric Monroe Jones, 48, is charged with killing
Janina Jefferson Nov. 28, 2016, at the Appalachia water plant where she
worked as an operator.

Immediately after Jefferson’s body was
discovered, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) identified Jones as
a suspect and began looking for him. Jones was charged with first-degree
murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a
firearm during the commission of first-degree murder.

In April 2017, the U.S. Marshals began working
the case with the WCSO and upgraded it to major status, due to the time
Jones had been on the run.
