TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Toms River Police reported a 24-year-old Toms River man was struck and killed on Route 37 while learning how to ride a motorcycle. Police said Nicholas Cacciapaglia, 24, was learning to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle in the parking lot of Ocean County Power Sports when he lost control and struck a curb, and entered Route 37.

On Sunday, March 13, 2022, at approximately 7:30 PM, police units were dispatched to Route 37, near the intersection of Roosevelt Ave, for a reported motor vehicle accident, the TRPD reported.

“Once on Route 37, the bike went down and Mr. Cacciapaglia slid into the center lane where he was hit by a passing vehicle driven by Domenic Maruca, 62 of Toms River,” Jillian Messina, a spokeswoman for the Toms River Police Department said in a statement. “Mr. Cacciapaglia was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

There were no signs of impairment, and no summons was issued to Maruca, police said in a statement.

“The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald,” Messina said.
