Vehicle Fire Spread into Nearby Brush in Berkeley Township

by Charlie Dwyer

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Friday, a vehicle fire spread to nearby brush after becoming fully engulfed in flames. Police in Berkeley Township responded to a fire in the vicinity of 910 Main Street in the Holly Park Section of Berkeley Township.

“Upon arrival, police found a commercial van engulfed in flames and that the fire had spread to the reeds in the marsh,” the Berkeley Police Department said in a statement. “The Bayville Fire Company. and NJ Forest Fire Service responded to extinguish the fire. Approximately 1 1/2 acres burned.”

After an investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental. The van was attempting to turn around and became stuck in the mud. The reeds most likely ignited due to the heat from the engine.

No one was hurt as a result of this incident and the van was the only property that was damaged.
