BRIGANTINE, NJ – They are the first responders of the high seas. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center travels all along the Jersey Shore, rescuing and rehabilitating stranded and distressed seals.

“On April 6th, we responded to reports of an injured seal on the beach Brigantine,” the MMSC said today. “When our Stranding Team arrived, they found a male grey seal pup with injuries to his lower jaw and chest. He was brought back to the MMSC for supportive care and treatment for his injuries. His weight at intake was 53.4lbs. He is currently resting in Pen 4 of the Poolhouse as his wounds heal. We are happy to report that he is bright, alert and eating well on his own. This pup is consuming about 9lbs of mackerel, herring and capelin every day.”

The MMSC said this is now the height of seal season, and the hospital has been very busy.

“Because of caring people like YOU, we are able to give this little seal the care he needs for a second chance at life. Won’t you please consider making a donation to MMSC this seal season to help support our efforts with sick and injured seals? Thank you so much for your support,” the MMSC said.
