Repeat Violent Offender Charged in Murder And Multiple Shootings in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – The Baltimore Police Department have charged 36-year-old repeat violent offender Arthur McCaden with 1st Degree Murder in the shooting death of a man, and shooting of four others that took place on December 17th. This incident happened on the 1200 and 1300 Block of West North Avenue in Western Baltimore.

According to investigators, “At approximately 7:49 p.m., Western District patrol officers responded to the 1200 and 1300 blocks of West North Avenue, for a Shot Spotter alert. Once there, officers located 36-year-old Derrick Smith who was unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers also located four additional victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the body. Medics responded to the location and transported 36-year-old Derrick Smith to an area hospital where he later died.”

On February 1st, detectives obtained a warrant charging McCaden with 1st degree murder. He was apprehended on February 23rd while committing larceny in a convenience store in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.


On April 19th, he was transported to Central Booking Intake Facility where he was charged with 1st degree murder.
