WAYNE, NJ – A family in Wayne found the remains of a human fetus inside a storage container in the basement of a home they were living in this weekend.

According to Wayne Chief of Police Jack McNiff, police officers were dispatched to a residence in the township in response to a report that the remains of a human fetus had been discovered.

“The residents discovered the remains inside a storage container in their basement, and then contacted the authorities,” Chief McNiff said in a statement. “The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains, and an autopsy will be conducted as part of the investigation. This investigation is active and ongoing.”

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said more information will be released when it becomes available.
