ANNAPOLIS, MD – An Annapolis taxi driver was robbed after being put into a bear hug by his passenger, police reported Friday morning.

“At approximately 6:00 a.m. officers responded for a report of a strong-arm robbery of a citizen in the 700 block of Bestgate Road in Annapolis,” police said in a statement. “The victim, a taxi cab driver, picked up the suspect at Anne Arundel Medical Center and drove him to several locations to find an ATM prior to ending up in the 700 block of Bestgate Road.”

While at the Bestgate Road location, the suspect grabbed the victim in a “bear-hug” and a struggle ensued, according to the report.

The suspect was able to remove the victim’s wallet and fled on foot. No weapons were used in this incident. Through investigative means, officers learned the identity of the suspect and applied for charges which are pending,” police said.

The suspect’s name was not released.
