Guns, Drugs Found During Traffic Stop in Allegany County

ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD – Early this morning, deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling Westbound, on Interstate 68, near the 42-mile marker.

“Upon making contact with the occupants, Deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, Deputies located a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl, along with a 9MM handgun, and an assault rifle style shotgun,” police said. “Additionally, Deputies located packaging material and various controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia which further indicated an intent to distribute the controlled dangerous substances.”

Police arrested John R. Zajac and Courtney A. Purnell.
