NEPTUNE, NJ – A man was found shot to death inside a car in Neptune Township early Monday morning, according to acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey. The body was found inside a vehicle on a street outside the popular Jersey Shore nightclub Headliner.

According to the Neptune Police Department, shortly before 1:42 a.m., officers responded to the vicinity of 1401 Route 35 South for a report of possible shots fired. The club was placed on lockdown after the shooting.

Headliner officials and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said the shooting had nothing to do with their club operations despite rampant online rumors published to various social media pages.

“To be clear the shooting was not at the Headliner nor was it on Headliner property,” the company said. “The shooting was on a public street between the Headliner, a marina and other businesses and involved individuals had nothing to do with the Headliner. The Headliner nightclub was placed on lockdown just as any school or business would for the safety of their customers, until police determined that the neighborhood was safe. The Headliner is cooperating with police.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:41 a.m., police said.

“Rumors circulated on social media that the shooting took place on the property of a local nightclub, which was incorrect,” the Neptune Police Department said. “The vehicle was discovered parked on the street of the South Concourse.”
