MADISON, NJ – Fourteen children attending a soccer camp at Drew University’s swimming pool were hospitalized on Monday after inhaling excessive amounts of chlorine fumes.

Police said a small amount of chlorine was released at the university’s Simon Forum’s Pool Monday afternoon.

The ages of the children ranged from 10 to 17, according to township officials.

“After investigation, a small amount of chlorine was accidently released into the pool and 14 individuals experienced chlorine inhalation symptoms,” the town said. “Tests detected normal levels of chlorine and all systems were working as normal.”

According to officials, the 14 individuals received medical attention on the scene and were later transported to Morristown Medical Center for observations.

Responding to the scene was support from Morris County OEM, Florham Park Fire Department, Florham Park EMS, New Vernon EMS, Morris Township Fire Department, Chatham EMS, Morris Minutemen and Hanover Township EMS.
