Woman Suffering from Dementia Reported Missing After Leaving Hospital in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – A 65-year-old woman who suffers from dementia has gone missing in Newark shortly after leaving the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Now, the Newark Police Department seeks the public’s help in locating Sheila Martin, 65, of Newark, who was reported missing today.

“Ms. Martin, who suffers from dementia and diabetes, was last seen leaving University Hospital at approximately 4:20 p.m. She is described as 5’3” tall and 180 pounds. She has a medium brown complexion, black and gray hair, and brown eyes,” the department said. “She was wearing a dark blue nightgown with flowers and no shoes. Ms. Martin is also wearing a silver medical bracelet.”


Interim Director Malave urges anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sheila Martin to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
