NEWARK, NJ – The man who robbed a Santander Bank in Newark on Monday is now facing aggravated assault charges in addition to bank robbery charges.
Robert A. Bruno, 29, of Newark, in connection with a bank robbery and aggravated assault that occurred Monday just after 2 p.m.
Police responded to Santander Bank, 290 Ferry Street, on a call of a robbery.
“A male suspect handed a teller a note demanding cash and stating he had a bomb. The suspect also threatened to shoot the teller. As he was fleeing the bank, the suspect was approached by a male bank employee, who the suspect struck in the face before fleeing and heading westbound on Ferry Street,” police said.
Detectives investigating this incident identified Bruno, who was apprehended at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Quitman Street. He was found in possession of CDS cocaine and heroin. Detectives also recovered $1,200.00 in cash in suspected proceeds from the robbery. Bruno faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and CDS possession.
