Absecon Stolen Auto Pursuit Leads to Arrest

ABSECON, NJ – A police pursuit that start with a stolen Mercedes in the Absecon Marketplace ended in a marsh along the White Horse Pike.

According to the Absecon Police Department, one man was arrested for motor vehicle theft after stealing a Mercedes left idling in a shopping center.

The department said officers were called to the Absecon Marketplace just before 9:30 PM on August 1, 2022 and received the report.

“A city officer immediately located the vehicle on Route 30 (White Horse Pike) and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The driver refused to comply and led officers on a pursuit. The suspect vehicle ran off the road and ultimately drove into the marsh,” the department said. “The driver refused to surrender and led officers on a foot chase. Officers apprehended the driver, identified as Thomas Peele, 26, of Lewisberry, PA, without further incident.”
