Cranford Police Blotter: Here’s What’s Happening

CRANFORD, NJ – The Cranford Police Department has issued the following police blotter incident reports of events that have recently occurred in their jurisdiction.

“The information provided does not represent the total scope of police activity.  Individuals charged as a result of police investigations are merely an accusation.  All defendants should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

  • On 07/16/2022 at approximately 0448 hours, police responded to North Avenue East in the area of the Garden State Parkway on the report of a 2015 White Nissan stopped at the traffic light despite it cycling green multiple times.  Subsequent to an investigation, Patrolman Robert Chamra arrested the driver, Carlos Avilabernal, for driving while intoxicated.  He was processed and provided a Municipal Court Appearance Date.  In addition, Avilabernal was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to observe a traffic signal, obstructing traffic, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, use of a wireless device while driving, and failure to possess a credential.
  • On 05/11/2022 at approximately 1256 hours, police took report of check fraud from a resident of Munsee Drive.  Subsequent to an investigation by the Detective Bureau, Detective Robert Jordan arrested Arlene Suriel on 07/20/2022 for Theft by Deception and Forgery.  Suriel was charged and provided a Superior Court Appearance Date.
  • On 07/27/2022 at approximately 2334 hours, police stopped a 2002 Black Mercedes for an equipment violation.  Subsequent to an investigation, Patrolman Christopher Folinusz arrested the driver, Marcelo Barrios, for Possession of Prescription Pills and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.  He was processed and provided a Municipal Court Appearance Date.  In addition, Barrios was issued motor vehicle summonses for CDS in a motor vehicle, improper display of license plates, and having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
  • On 07/28/2022 at approximately 1821 hours, police responded to the area of South Avenue East near High Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist.  Subsequent to an investigation, Patrolman Antonio Bellomo arrested the driver of the motor vehicle, Francesco Verga, for Driving While Intoxicated.  He was processed and provided a Municipal Court Appearance Date.  In addition, Verga was issued a summons for careless driving.
  • On 08/01/2022 at approximately 0406 hours, police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on North Union Avenue near Alden Street. Subsequent to an investigation, Patrolman Joshua Sousa arrested the driver, Christopher Pauer, for Driving While Intoxicated.  He was processed and provided a Municipal Court Appearance Date.  In addition, Pauer was issued motor vehicle summonses for Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane and Delaying Traffic.
