Lisbon Train Bridge Takes Another Tractor Trailer Victim, 9 So Far

LISBON, CT – The town of Lisbon has a low bridge. It’s just 12′ 7″ above the roadway and clearly marked by signage, yet Connecticut State Police said another oversized trailer tried to go under it this week.
The result is what many call the “can opener” effect when the top of the trailer is peeled back like an old can of sardines.

“The Newent Road (Route 138) train bridge in the Town of Lisbon went to battle again. Who would have guessed, but a 13’1” trailer cannot fit under a 12’7” bridge,” CPD said today. “This is the ninth time a truck has become disabled or damaged due to striking the bridge. Whether you’re in a commercial motor vehicle or a passenger car, always be observant of posted signs and advisories while you travel on our Connecticut roads.”

Not only is hitting the bridge going to cost you repairs and possibly lost goods and services, but you also get ticketed, as was the case in this incident.

“A TSU Trooper performed a MCSAP Level 2 inspection on the CMV which found a total of 7 violations. The driver was taken out-of-service and other enforcement action was taken,” police said.
