COLUMBUS, OH – Police in Columbus are searching for a couple wanted for stealing Star Wars Lego sets by fraudulently using barcodes that rang the products up for 99 cents each.

According to the Columbus Police Department, detectives need help identifying two suspects who stole four Star Wars LEGO sets from the Meijer store located in the 1600 block of Hilliard Rome Road.

“An asset protection detective for the store witnessed the male suspect hold a fake bar code while scanning each LEGO set at a self-checkout. This changed the price for each item to $0.99. The male then paid for the items with cash before he and a female walked out of the store with the stolen merchandise. The suspects left the area in a blue sedan,” police said.

Loss Prevention Specialists from several nearby retailers have reported similar incidents where a male and female attempted to steal LEGO sets from area stores.

Anyone who can help identify these suspects is asked to contact Det. Hackett at 614-645-4254 or by emailing phackett@columbuspolice.org. Tips can also be made to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
