Man Shot from Behind While Cleaning Car in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – A man who was cleaning his car was shot from behind but was missed by a gunman earlier this week.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the below-pictured suspect, who fired a gunshot at a victim on August 15, 2022.

According to police, at approximately 7 a.m. in the 100 block of South 9th Street, the victim was cleaning his automobile when the suspect approached him from behind brandishing a weapon. When the victim attempted to run, the suspect fired one round in his direction. No injuries were reported.


“The suspect, who may frequent or live on South 10th Street between Central Avenue and 11th Avenue, fled north on South 9th Street into a vacant lot adjacent to 107 South 9th Street. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood, black sweats, and a black ski mask covering his face,” police reported.
