73-Year-Old Woman Struck During Drive-By Shooting Outside Her New York City Apartment

NEW YORK, NY – A 73-year-old woman was shot in the crossfire of a gang-related shooting outside her Bronx apartment building on Tuesday, the New York City Police Department reported on Tuesday.

Lorreine Matthews sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle when two suspects in a black car opened fire in a drive-by shooting. She was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where she was treated for her injury.

Police believe the shooting in which two men in a dark sedan pulled up to 725 Garden Street and began shooting.


Police did not know who the intended target was in the shooting. Multiple bullet holes were found in the apartment building.

The New York City Police Department also said a 13-year-old girl was nearly struck when a bullet crashed through her window in her apartment.

Witnesses claim between 15 and 20 shots were fired during the incident. No suspects were arrested. The vehicle fled the scene after the shooting.
