PHILADELPHIA, PA – Gunshots broke the sound of children playing basketball and playing outside near Philadelphia’s Shepard Recreation Center last week.

Today, the Philadelphia Police Department and the Shooting Investigation Group are asking for the public’s assistance for information in reference to a shooting that occurred outside the Shepard Recreation Center located at 400 N. 57th St.

According to police, on August 16, at 6:52 pm, 19th District officers were patrolling the 300 block of N. 57th St when they heard numerous gunshots in the immediate area.

“Officers then observed a masked black male wearing dark clothing enter the rear, passenger side of a white Dodge Durango which quickly fled down Haverford Ave,” police said. “The Dodge Durango crashed into the side of a grocery store on the 200 block of Farson St and all five occupants fled on foot. Three of the five males were apprehended.”

The remaining two have not been identified. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of these individuals. Five shooting victims were later located outside of the Shepard Recreation Center and transported to local hospitals.
