Elderly woman assaulted in broad daylight attack in Midtown Manhattan

New York, NY- a 70-year-old woman was assaulted while walking down Madison Ave near E 52nd St at around 11:00 AM on Wednesday. She was approached by a stranger who punched her iI the face without saying a word, according to police and a video released by the New York City Police Department.

The attack in midtown Manhattan was done in broad daylight, with witnesses all around.

After being assaulted, the wound fell to the ground, landing on the curb. She was assisted by a passerby who rendered aid and assistance. She was taken to NYU Langone Hospital in Manhattan and was listed in stable condition.


The New York City Police Department at this time does not have a suspect in custody. The department has released video surveillance of the suspect and is asking residents to please help in the identification of the suspect.

The suspect is identified as a black woman wearing a bun with a white sweatshirt, black shorts and an oversized pocketbook. She fled the scene before police arrived.
