Police say shooting in Monroeville was suicide

MONROEVILLE, PA – police responded to a home in Monroeville on Wednesday in response to the report of a gunshot. Upon arrival, police found a 47 year old man shot dead in his own backyard. An investigation by the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit revealed that the cause of death was suicide.

At approximately 3:40 pm Monroeville Police officers responded to the 700 block of Illini Drive to serve a PFA on a 47-year-old male. During the PFA service, the male walked to the backyard and shot himself. The male died on scene.

“Officers were not in the vicinity of the male when he shot himself and no one else was inside the residence when the incident occurred,” police said.
