51-year-old man arrested for stealing catalytic converters in Norfolk

Norfolk, VA- the Norfolk Police Department, was at the right place at the right time in order to catch a man who was stealing chaotic catalytic converters from cars in the neighborhood.

On Sunday, at around 5:30 a.m., a police officer was patrolling in the 8900 block of Granby Street and heard the sound of a power tool cutting metal.

“When the officer went to investigate further, he observed a catalytic converter laying underneath a car, and a man who appeared to be working on the vehicle. The officer quickly determined the vehicle did not belong to the man,” police said.


As a result of this investigation, Billy F. Jarrell, 51, was arrested and charged with catalytic converter theft, vandalism, possession of burglarious tools, and conspiracy.

Norfolk Police encourage residents to report suspicious activity by calling 757-441-5610 or submit an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips mobile app.
