Millville Man Killed in Middle Township Crash

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ – Middle Township police today have identified the man killed in last week’s fatal crash on Route 9 near Eagle’s Way in the Swainton section of town.

According to police, on Thursday, shortly after 4pm, the Middle Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 9 and Eagle’s Way in the Swainton section of the township for a reported head on motor vehicle collision involving entrapment.  

“The investigation revealed a Honda Accord, driven by Theodore O’Donnell Jr., forty-four (44) years of age from Millville, New Jersey, was traveling north on Route 9, crossed the centerline and side-swiped a Nissan Versa that had been traveling south on Route 9,” police reported. “The Honda Accord continued into the south-bound lane and struck a Ford F-150 that was traveling behind the Nissan Versa.”


O’Donnell was extricated from the vehicle by Cape May Court House Fire Department and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. 

The driver of the Ford F-150 was also transported to the hospital for injuries.  

As a result of the accident Route 9 was closed for approximately two hours.  The crash was investigated by the Middle Township Crash Team and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.  Also assisting with the crash were Inspira Health Systems and Goshen and Green Creek Fire Police.
