MCKEESPORT, PA – Police are investigating a possible case of shaken baby syndrome after a 5-month-old infant was taken to the hospital and not breathing.
According to police, on Thursday, at approximately 12:27 a.m., McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service responded to Harrison Village in McKeesport for a 5-month-old infant that was not breathing.
“The infant received medical aid and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Hospital staff determined the infant suffered subdural hemorrhaging, arachnoid hemorrhaging and cerebral edema which is indicative of the infant being shaken,” police said. “The hospital immediately alerted McKeesport police who requested the assistance of the Allegheny County Police Detective Division. County Police Homicide and General Investigation detectives determined 29-year-old Michael Channing Barber, the infant’s father, was the person responsible for injuring the infant.”
Barber was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person, Barber was lodged in the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
