Jackson Police Investigate Shooting

JACKSON, NJ – The Jackson Police Department reported on Tuesday that a shooting that took place at a home on Jackson Mills Road was a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no threats to the community exist.

After rumors of a shooting and possible murder spread on social media, the Jackson Police Department issued a statement to inform the community that those online rumors were false.

β€œPatrol Officers responded to a residence on Jackson Mills Road closer to the Freehold border for a report of an individual that had sustained a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival they discovered a male victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the Jackson Police Department said in a statement. β€œHe was still alive and transported to the hospital for treatment, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.”

Police said there was no reason to suspect foul play in the shooting and there were no crimes committed related to the incident.

Other rumors spread on social media said schools were locked down after the shooting, but the department said those were also unsubstantiated rumors.

The incident remains under investigation.
