ODENTON, MD – Two people were shot, and one person was killed at a basement party inside a business located outside the gates of Fort Meade early Sunday morning. The party took place inside a basement recording studio.

The studio is across the street from the Fort Meade entrance.

According to police, at around 2:30 am, officers responded to the location where a party was advertised from between midnight to 5 am.

The deceased male was identified as Alexander Leon Gray Jr. The second victim was unidentified.

Upon their arrival, officers were unable to enter the building or render aid to the two gunshot victims.

“When officers arrived, they encountered 60-70 people exiting the business and scattering about the parking lot and Annapolis Road, The crowd would not allow officers entry to the establishment. A victim was encountered in the parking lot, bleeding but trying to get away,” Lt. Jacklyn Davis, of Anne Arundel County Police Department said.”It was also apparent there was a victim within the business’s doorway. The crowd was actively impeding officers from rendering aid to either victim. Eventually, when enough officers arrived, they had to form a line and push the crowd back to allow the Fire Department access to the victims. The victim in the parking lot was transported to an area trauma center, and the victim inside the business was pronounced deceased.”

At this time, police do not know who the gunman was. Officers criticized the crowd for hindering their response and some of those people might also face charges in the future, according to a report today.

“Dozens of people let this man die. They listened to him agonal breathe, they let him bleed out and they just let it happen,” Lt. Davis later said. “They had to wait for more officers to come and form a line to force their way in. We don’t know if Mr. Gray was the intended target or if the shooter just shot into the crowd.”
