Bystanders subdue 24-year-old gunman after Silver Spring shooting

SILVER SPRING, MD – One man was shot and another arrested after a shooting in Silver Spring on Saturday. According to police, 24-year-old Marcus Elijah Conway of Hyattsville had just shot a man in the 1700 block of Mt. Pisgah Lane and by the time officers arrived on the scene, he had been subdued by witnesses to the shooting.

“At approximately 5:56 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting that just occurred,” the Montgomery County Police Department reported. “Upon arrival, officers observed a man suffering from multiple injuries to his body and bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Officers also observed the suspect, Marcus Elijah Conway restrained by multiple witnesses at the scene. There was also a small black handgun that a bystander stated they had taken away from Conway.”

Police aid Conway was lying on top of the victim during an apparent struggle when he fired the gun. He then pointed the gun at the victim’s head and pulled the trigger, but the gun malfunctioned and did not fire.

At that time, a bystander engaged Conway, kicking him and attempting to remove the gun from his possession. Other nearby witnesses joined in and were able to secure the Taurus .38 special and subdue Conway.

Police arrested and charged Conway with attempted murder and several gun-related charges. Investigators confirmed there was one live round in the chamber of the malfunctioning gun.
