Man shot after pointing gun at Roanoke police officer

ROANOKE, VA – Roanoke police officers responding to an incident of shots fired on Mountain View Terrace on Saturday night encountered a male subject with a gun.

According to police, upon their arrival, the armed suspect was confronted by police, when he turned and pointed a gun at the officers. One officer fired their gun, striking the male suspect.

He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.


The incident happened Saturday night at around 11:10 p.m. when a 911 report of shots fired was reported in the 2300 block of Mountain View Terrace.

The man was confronted outside of his house by police and failed to respond to police orders to put the gun down.

The Virginia State Police are now investigating the shooting, and the officer was placed on administrative leave in compliance with Department policy.
