Violence prompts Long Branch school district to move weekend sports games, cancel activities

LONG BRANCH, NJ – A string of shootings that rocked the Long Branch area this week has prompted the Long Branch school district to reschedule some of its sports games this weekend.

This is the second time in as many weeks that shore area schools canceled or moved a football game due to the ongoing shootings that are suspected to be gang-related at this time, according to sources.

Police are now confirming that the three shootings on Monday were related.

Friday night’s homecoming football game has been moved to Saturday morning, and spectators will not be permitted at the game, according to the school district. All other scheduled middle school and high school home games this weekend will now be played as away games, and all weekend and evening school activities have been canceled or postponed at this time.
