Harrisburg elementary school put on lockdown after shots fired at a nearby field

Foose Elementary School in Harrisburg was placed on lockdown early Monday morning after the report of gunshots in nearby field.

HARRISBURG, PA – Foose Elementary School in Harrisburg was placed on lockdown early Monday morning after the report of gunshots in nearby field.

Police said that at around 9 am, officers were dispatched to the area of 13th Street.

Police advised the lockdown of the nearby elementary school. There were no injuries reported in the shooting. Students and staff were not in any immediate danger.


“Upon arrival, a scene was established, and the nearby Foose Elementary School was placed into lockdown due to the nature of the incident,” the Harrisburgh Police Department. ”  

Police were given video and photos of the suspect, who exited his vehicle into the adjacent field after exiting his vehicle and then fled. north on South 13th Street. Police do not know why the suspect stopped and fired shots as there was not an apparently intended victim in the shooting at this point.

“The suspect wass described as either a light-skinned or white male clad in a tan coat with grey sweatpants,” police said. “His dark hair appeared to be tied in a bun. The vehicle is a small grey sedan that appears to be missing it’s passenger side rear hubcap.”

The school lockdown was lifted in a short amount of time.
