Woman uses dog to steal car, then runs dog over, killing it

Severna Park, MD- A bizarre incident unfolded Friday morning in Severna Park where a woman used a small dog in order to steal a car and then ran the dog over.

The ordeal began at around 9:15 a.m. Friday morning when police responded to a suspicious person call on Leelyn Drive. A 911 caller reported that a woman was seen pulling on car door handles in the area. Shortly after an updated call advised police that the woman was chasing a small black and white dog in the street.

She eventually caught the dog and when a passerby stopped their car to ask the woman if she needed help she handed the dog to the Good Samaritan and drove off. At some point, the dog got away and was in the street, and as she drove away with it an adult passenger in the car ran over the dog.

The dog was rushed to a nearby animal hospital by a witness but succumbed to its injuries a short time later.

Officers arrived on the scene and arrested 41-year-old Theresa Cooper and charged her accordingly.

Police at this time still do not know who the dog’s owner is, and are asking the public for assistance to identify the dog owner. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-222-6145 or Animal Control at 410-222-8900.
